T20 World Cup 2022: Virat Kohli breaks Sachin Tendulkar's record of most 50+ scores in ICC tournaments

Virat Kohli proved to be the difference yet again when India faced arch-rivals Pakistan in the ICC  T20 World Cup 2022 encounter at the MCG on Sunday, October 23. He remained unbeaten right till the very end scoring a blistering 82* run-knock off 53 deliveries at an outstanding strike rate of 154.71.

Meanwhile, the batting megastar shattered yet another unique record with this match-winning innings and has now overhauled his idol and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar when it comes to registering the most number of 50+ scores in the International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments.

Virat Kohli goes past Sachin Tendulkar's record with a whirwind 82* against Pakistan

Virat Kohli registered his 24th 50+ score which took him past Sachin Tendulkar. In the 61 ICC matches that Sachin played in his career, he amassed 2719 runs averaging 49.43 including seven tons and 16 half-centuries with his highest individual score being 152.

The Master Blaster finished as the leading run-getter in the 1996 and the 2003 editions of the World Cup. He was awarded the Player of the Tournament for scoring 673 runs in the 2003 edition. It is to be noted that Tendulkar never played a T20 World Cup. 

As far as Kohli is concerned, he has so far scored 2486 runs in 61 ICC matches averaging 60.63 including two centuries and 22 half-centuries with his highest individual score being 107.

The batting icon was adjudged the Player of the Tournament in the 2014 and 2016 editions of the T20 World Cup. 

At the same time, his match-winning 82* has now ensured that the batting megastar is the highest run-getter in T20Is. In 110 matches and 102 innings, Virat has now amassed 3,794 runs averaging 51.97 including a century and 34 50s with his highest individual score being an unbeaten 122 against Afghanistan. Former India captain has got off to a scintillating beginning and will look to carry his form ahead in the tournament.
