The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is underway in Australia, with the First-Round fixtures ongoing which will be followed by the Super 12 matches from October 22. 16 teams will fight it out in the showpiece event down under for the coveted title. Four teams will officially qualify from the First-Round to seal a spot in the Super 12 group stage.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) asked the teams participating to share the list of the 15-member squad taking part in the marquee competition. Teams always try a blend of fresh faces coupled with veterans to strike balance in order to compete in a structured form on the pitch. This year’s edition will feature a few players who will play their last edition before calling it quits.

All the team’s management along with the selectors have decided to send a contingent to Australia that can show character during the crucial matches. Age becomes one of the differentiating factors that can help make or at times break a team in the crunch moments. Fielding and running between the wickets are departments in which a player’s athleticism might be affected due to the age.

Oldest team in the tournament

Hosts and defending champions Australia hold the record for the oldest team in terms of age in this edition of the T20 World Cup 2022. The 15-man squad designated for the marquee tournament averages 31.13 and the fans will hope that their experience amounts to something special this year.

11 of their selected 15 players by the Cricket Australia are over 30 years of age, whereas, vice-captain Pat Cummins and Ashton Agar are just one short of turning 30. Explosive southpaw David Warner along with skipper Aaron Finch are 35 each which make them the oldest players representing the side.

The hosts and defending champions are viewed as the team to beat at the grand stage and the side will hope that the veterans play a big role in retaining the prestigious trophy.
