Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh apologised to Daryl Mitchell after the T20 World Cup 2026 final, revealing the same during a conversation with Harsha Bhogle following India’s title-winning victory.

The incident occurred in the 10th over of the final, when Arshdeep and Mitchell were involved in a heated on-field exchange. Earlier in the over, Mitchell had smashed two sixes off the Indian pacer, putting him under pressure. On the next delivery, Arshdeep bowled a wide full toss outside off stump, which Mitchell attempted to hit aggressively. However, he toe-ended the shot towards the extra-cover region.

In the heat of the moment, Arshdeep attempted a quick throw at the striker’s end but ended up hitting Mitchell on the thigh. The incident immediately angered the New Zealand batter, who reacted with visible frustration. Mitchell walked down the pitch with animated gestures, clearly expressing his displeasure at the throw.

Sensing the situation escalating, Suryakumar Yadav stepped in quickly to calm things down. The Indian skipper placed a reassuring hand on Mitchell’s shoulder and tried to defuse the tension between the two players. Meanwhile, the on-field umpires also intervened and had a brief discussion with Arshdeep to ensure the situation did not spiral further.

Fortunately, the heated moment did not last long. Both players eventually composed themselves and later shook hands, signaling that the brief altercation had been resolved and the focus returned to the game. After the match, Arshdeep clarified that the incident was unintentional and apologised to Mitchell.

“I just ran off to apologise to Mitchell. The ball reverse-swung when I threw it and it hit him. Right now it feels great but the emotions will sink in the next 2-4 days. This is a very good team with a lot of match-winners, and the result is cherry on the cake. As a bowler, our role is to restrict them to under 250 if we score 250 and when bowling first, it's just to restrict them to as little as possible,” said Arshdeep after the match.
