Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir visited Kalighat temple in Kolkata ahead of the team’s clash with West Indies in T20 World Cup 2026. The match, final one of the Super Eight Stage, will be played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Sunday, March 1.

The upcoming encounter will be a virtual knockout, with the winner set to qualify for the semi-final while the loser will stand eliminated. India will enter the match on the back of a convincing 72-run win over Zimbabwe, while West Indies will be coming off a nine-wicket thrashing at the hands of South Africa.

Both India and West Indies entered the Super Eight stage of the tournament with an unblemished record, winning all four fixtures in the group stage. India defeated USA, Namibia, Pakistan and Netherlands to top the table, while West Indies emulated that with victories over Scotland, England, Nepal and Italy.

India started off their campaign with 29-run win over USA in Mumbai before thrashing Namibia by 93 runs in Delhi, recording their biggest win by margin of runs in T20 World Cups. Suryakumar Yadav and Co. defeated Pakistan by a convincing margin of 61 runs in Colombo and then edged out Netherlands in Ahmedabad by 17 runs.

On the other hand, West Indies commenced their campaign with a comprehensive 35-run against Scotland in Kolkata before defeating England by 30 runs in Mumbai. They trumped Nepal at the same venue by nine wickets before returning to Kolkata to beat Italy by 42 runs.

India's start to the Super Eight stage was rather ominous as they suffered a net-run-rate denting 72-run loss at the hands of South Africa in Ahmedabad. In stark contrast, West Indies demolished Zimbabwe in Mumbai with a 107-run win to maintain their winning streak. However, their five-match winning run came to a screeching halt in their second encounter of the Super Eight stage against South Africa.

Both teams will put their best foot forward in a winner-takes-it-all clash come March 1.
