Tata Motors to gift IND-W team the new Tata Sierra

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has announced that it will present the Indian Women’s Cricket Team with the first units of its upcoming Tata Sierra SUV. This gesture celebrates the team’s historic triumph at the ICC Women’s Women’s World Cup 2025. The SUV is set to launch in India on November 25, marking the return of the iconic Sierra nameplate, now redesigned for the modern era.

Unlike the original 3-door model, the new Sierra is a 5-door family SUV, featuring highlights such as a panoramic sunroof, connected LED taillights, and sleek door handles. Recent teasers also show the vehicle in a bold red paint finish, underscoring its premium appeal.

Meanwhile, the ICC announced a record prize pool of INR 123 crore for the 2025 edition, nearly four times more than the INR 31 crore offered in the 2022 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and surpassing the INR 89 crore from the 2023 Men’s World Cup. As champions, India will receive approximately INR 40 crore, while runners-up South Africa will earn close to INR 20 crore. By comparison, Australia, the 2022 winners, had received INR 12 crore.

In addition, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awarded the team INR 51 crore, with individual players and head coach Amol Muzumdar reportedly receiving INR 2-3 crore, and support staff earning between INR 20–30 lakh.

The Women in Blue had finished fourth in the league phase, but delivered outstanding performances in the knockout matches to secure the title. Their next challenge is an all-format series against Australia scheduled between February and March next year.

With this World Cup victory, Indian Women’s Cricket has etched its name in the annals of the sport, marking a new era for women’s cricket in the country. Tata Motors’ gesture of gifting the first Sierra units to the champions further underscores the growing recognition and celebration of women athletes in India.
