It was like a rebirth to the Indian Premier League for Sarfaraz Khan, as he was brought by Chennai Super Kings for his base price of INR 75.00 lakh in the accelerated round of the IPL 2026 Mini-Auction. The right-handed batter had not seen the light of the day in the cash-rich tournament, despite stellar performances in the domestic circuit. However, the returns have finally been reaped, as Sarfaraz finds his home at Chepauk.
Like everyone at CSK is, Sarfaraz is also excited to play and learn under the leadership of the legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni. He further expressed that he is running out of patience to meeting everyone in the CSK dressing room, as the 2026 season is set to get underway on March 26, with the five-time champions searching for their record-breaking sixth title.
"Dear CSK, thank you so, so much for giving me this opportunity. And I feel very lucky that I am going to play with Mahi bhai [MS Dhoni]. I hope I will learn a lot, and cannot wait to join you guys soon. Thank you so much for giving me a new life," Sarfaraz was heard saying in a video shared by CSK from their official social media handle.

Speaking of Sarfaraz's IPL career, the Mumbai batter has represented teams like Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings in the past. He has scored 585 runs in 50 games in the league over the years, but is yet to show his full potential as a handy top-order batter. He will hope to play a crucial role for the Chennai-based franchise in the upcoming edition of the marquee league.
Sarfaraz showed great signs of form with the bat in the recently-concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, where he smashed 329 runs in just seven innings, which also includes an unbeaten hundred and three half-centuries, playing for Mumbai. With form on his side, it remains to be seen how the 28-year-old performs in the upcoming season.
