The pressure becomes more than twice in an India-Pakistan final: Wasim Jaffer

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer explained the significance of pressure if India progresses into the finals by beating England in the T20 World Cup 2022. The first semi-final took place at the SCG between New Zealand and Pakistan where the men in green thoroughly dominated their opposition in all the three departments of the game.

They have now reached the finals after 13 years and will be eagerly waiting to see the winner of the second semi-final between India and England on Thursday (November 10). The possibility of an India-Pakistan final has become large and it was the men in blue who emerged victorious in their previous meeting in a final in 2007 T20 World Cup.  

From Pakistan’s point of view, they would want England: Wasim Jaffer 

Jaffer mentioned that the pressure involved in any India-Pakistan games and a final game is completely different and noted that it could become twice if it is an India-Pakistan final. He added that Pakistan would hope to meet England rather than India and reckoned that it is important to not look too far ahead for India as England is a tough team to beat on the paper at first.

“They are different kinds of pressure. In a final, the India-Pakistan game pressure comes down and it is a different kind of pressure. We all felt pressure at the previous encounter at the MCG but in a final, it becomes more than twice. From Pakistan’s point of view, they would want England obviously but there is nothing like an India-Pakistan final,” Jaffer told on BatBricks7 presents ‘Run Ki Runneeti show’ on CricTracker. 

“Any team that plays Pakistan as far as I know will be a worried team, but India has to win their upcoming game first as England is not a pushover. This is a semi-final and England has got a very balanced side. India doesn’t need to look too far ahead, and first have to win the England clash, then we will see what happens on 13th,” he added.
