After Delhi Capitals were reduced to 33/4 against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs stitched a 93-run partnership, with both scoring a half-century each. However, the duo couldn’t help the hosts get anywhere closer to the target, as they fell short by 106 runs. Soon after the defeat, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag slammed DC skipper Pant and criticised his batting approach against the two-time champions.

Sehwag, who previously captained the Delhi-based franchise, pointed out that Pant threw away his wicket against KKR, which according to him was a wrong move. The stumper-batter got out for 55 runs as Varun Chakravarthy picked up his wicket while Pant tried to clear the ropes for what could have been his sixth six of the night. However, Shreyas Iyer picked up an easy catch, which ended Pant’s stay in the crease. As per Sehwag, Pant should have been more cautious as he believes that the 26-year-old should have scored a century against KKR.

Sehwag mentioned that Pant played well in the middle but added that the cricketer should have remained unbeaten and as he believes that it could have given him some batting practice.

“Yes, it (Pant's innings) was good. But you didn't score much in the first two games, and now, when you're scoring runs, you are giving your wicket away. You should have stayed, reached a century, and remained unbeaten on 110 or 120. Because the runs dry pretty fast,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

“His batting was good, he has come back to form and scoring at a brilliant strike rate. Aaj waise bhi pehle over se hi pata tha ki haarne wale hain, jeetenge toh nahi (Today, they knew from the very first over that their loss is certain, they won't win). This was the time to do some batting practice. Instead of going to nets now, you could've played 20 extra deliveries here. Then you could've probably skipped practice overall and returned to the next match straight away,” Sehwag added.
