Just when it seemed the wickets column might remain barren and devoid of impact after Roston Chase had managed to take only a single wicket in the 10 overs during the T20 World Cup 2024 game against the USA, the 32-year-old delivered his finest T20I bowling performance (3/19 in four overs) when the West Indies needed it the most.
Entering the attack in the tenth over as the sixth bowler deployed, he immediately made an impact by dismissing skipper, Aaron Jones, a key threat leading up to the match. However, his pivotal contribution came in his third over, where he effectively halted the USA innings by dismissing southpaws, Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh, off consecutive deliveries. This double blow proved decisive, causing the USA's downfall from which they could never recover.
In an interview with the broadcasters after receiving the Player of the Match accolade, Chase expressed immense pride and joy at delivering a magnificent performance in front of his friends and family who were in attendance at the stadium. He particularly cherished the moment given his deep personal connection to the venue, having been born in the same town.
Chase mentioned that there was a pre-established strategy in the dressing room, emphasizing the spinners' role in steering the West Indies back into contention should the USA secure a strong powerplay, (which indeed they did, putting up 48/1 in the first six). Additionally, he disclosed details of an unruly day leading up to the match, including nearly missing the team bus and experiencing other challenges that affected his preparation.

"My best figures, to do it at home is a great feeling with all my friends and family watching. We spoke about it in the team meeting that it's our job as spinners to restrict them if they go well in the powerplay. Today, I wasn't having the best of days, I almost missed the bus," stated Chase while speaking to the broadcasters after the WI-USA game.

After praising the enthusiastic crowd and the vibrant atmosphere they created at the Kensington Oval which enhanced the venue's appeal for cricket according to him, Chase emphasized their primary objective, which was to clinch the mega-event for the third time. He underscored that achieving this goal required overcoming any opposition standing in their path.
