'Tremendous character' - Sachin Tendulkar in awe of Rishabh Pant's efforts to bat with fractured toe

When Rishabh Pant walked out to bat with a fractured right toe on Day 2, it was one of the biggest example of grit and determination towards the sport for today's generation. The left-handed batter had come in to bat at No. 6 when India lost their fourth wicket on the opening day of the fourth Test against England at the Old Trafford. Attempting a wily reverse sweep, Pant got hit on the right foot, and had to walk back retired hurt on 37.
The 26-year-old was ruled out of the fifth Test, and his participation on the field was certainly not happening. To everyone's surprise, however, he stepped onto the field following the wicket of Shardul Thakur. Referred to as the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar was in awe of the moment of determination shown by Pant to play for the team despite finding trouble to do so. He took to social media to share his words of appreciation for the youngster.
Tendulkar captioned his post for the India star, saying, “Resilience is about playing through pain and rising above it. @RishabhPant17 showed tremendous character by walking back into the game with an injury and delivering a performance like that. His fifty is a powerful reminder of the grit and determination it takes to represent your country. A brave effort, and one that will be remembered for a long time. Well played, Rishabh!”


Pant resilience takes India past 350
The Indian team looked in some sort of trouble, and it wasn't sure if they will be able to put up a decent total on the board. However, Pant managed to hit a few boundaries in his knock that took India past the 350-run mark in the first innings. The wicketkeeper-batter had to make his way back for a fighting 54 off just 75 balls, courtesy off a pearler by Jofra Archer.

In his second stint, Pant added 17 runs with the bat, and stitched a small but crucial partnership alongside Washington Sundar (27), which might prove to be priceless in the context of the game as it moves forward. India posted 358 on the board, with Sai Sudharsan being the top-scorer with his 61-run knock. Because of Pant's efforts, the Indian pacers will have a lot to show to restrict the opposition.
