The world of women’s international cricket has seen some great players not only from big, established sides but also from a few associate nations. As a part of the latest development, five associate nations will be part of the ODI cycle from 2025-2029, which include Thailand, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Scotland, and United Arab Emirates (UAE), who have recently been confirmed their ODI status by the International Cricket Council.
Out of the 16 female teams that now have the status in the 50-over format, Thailand and Scotland ensured the same following their participation in the ODI World Cup 2026 Qualifiers that took place in Pakistan. On the other hand, Papua New Guinea and the Dutch side retained their status based on their rankings in the T20Is, respectively. PNG, who are 13th followed by the Netherlands on the 15th place, have managed to keep their place.
Similarly, the UAE side has confirmed its status after ranking 16th in the Women's T20I rankings, dethroning the United States of America at the time of the annual rankings update. According to the rules, the teams with ODI Status are required to play a minimum of eight ODI games to achieve or maintain their ranking in the three- to four-year cycle.
The USA side who have not been able to retain their ODI status for the upcoming cycle are currently playing a bilateral series against Zimbabwe where they lost the three-match T20I series by a margin of 2-1 and are currently playing a two-match ODI series where they are holding a 1-0 lead after winning the first game. The second game is set to be played on May 03.
The UAE women on the other hand are currently in Bangkok where they are playing a T20I quadrangular series featuring Hong Kong, Kuwait and Thailand. They won their first game of the series against Hong Kong Women and are set to face Kuwait in their next game.
