Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan must be considering himself fairly unfortunate as he was adjudged Leg Before Wicket (LBW) in the game against Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday (November 6).

The decision could have gone in favour of the veteran all-rounder after he reviewed it as he was given out on the field. But the third umpire upheld the original decision and a distraught Shakib had to trudge to the dug-out in utter disappointment.

Shakib was furious and didn’t want to leave the field but there was nothing he could have done. The 35-year-old was dismissed on a golden duck as Bangladesh struggled to get going in the middle.

Shadab Khan, who dismissed Shakib was rather blunt when he was asked to share his opinion on the matter. The vice-captain of the Men in Green felt that the decision was right.

“So far so good. Bowlers have done their job. We assessed the conditions well. Hopefully, batters do the same. Slower ones (are effective) for fast bowlers, and if you bowl slow as a spinner you will also get help. Umpires gave it out, so it's out (Shakib decision),” Shadab said in a candid chat with the broadcasters during the innings break.

The shadow suggests the bat was in the air and there is a spike: Ravi Shastri

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri, who was part of the commentary panel also questioned the umpire’s decision on Shakib’s dismissal. The 60-year-old pointed out that the bat was not in contact with the ground while there was a clear spike on the ultra edge and also said that the player would be disappointed as it changed the momentum of the game.

“Which (the shadow) suggests the bat was in the air and there is a spike, so that ball has to hit the bat and nothing else. But, I think he will be a little disappointed, that it really turned the entire momentum of the game. Big player, big wicket, knockout game, and when your captain is dismissed in that fashion, it has a bearing on the dugout,” Shastri said during the innings break.
