Vaibhav Suryavanshi hits nine sixes in 86-run blitz to seal dominant victory for India U19

The fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered yet another sensational performance for India U19 against England U19 in the third Youth ODI on Wednesday, July 2. The young southpaw blasted a rapid 86 runs off just 31 balls, reaching his half-century in just 20 balls.

The match was reduced to 40 overs due to rain interruptions and saw England post a challenging total of 268 for 6, with captain Thomas Rew scoring an unbeaten 76 off 44 balls. However, India’s chase was electrifying, led by Suryavanshi’s explosive innings.

Suryavanshi smashed nine sixes and six fours, making his 86 the highest score of his six youth ODIs for India. India comfortably chased down the target in 34.3 overs. His 20-ball fifty is the second-fastest by an Indian in youth ODIs, only behind Rishabh Pant’s 18-ball half-century against Nepal U19 in 2016.

Remarkably, Suryavanshi’s nine sixes set a new Indian record for most sixes in a youth ODI innings, surpassing the previously jointly held record of eight by Raj Angad Bawa and Mandeep Singh. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener scored 78 runs in boundaries, which calculated for 90.69% of his total runs. Only three other Indian youth ODI players - Pant, Sarfaraz Khan and Manan Vohra - have recorded a higher percentage of runs in boundaries during an innings.

Currently, Suryavanshi leads the batting charts in the five-match series, scoring 179 runs in three innings at an astonishing strike rate of 213.09.

India lead the five-match ODI series 2-1, with the fourth match scheduled for July 5 in Worcester.
