'Waiting for this opportunity': Harmanpreet Kaur looks forward to playing in the Women's IPL
India's women's cricket team is currently competing in a tri-series against South Africa and the West Indies in South Africa.

The India women's cricket team skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, has expressed her eagerness to take part in the upcoming Women's IPL scheduled to commence from March this year. The 2023 edition will be the first season of the league.
The BCCI has already sold the media rights of the WIPL to Viacom18 for ₹ 951 cr. The five teams for the league will be announced on January 25, after a closed bidding process. As the preparations are in full swing for the tournament, team India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has also appreciated BCCI’s efforts.

“Many girls all over the world will play. Because the opportunity that the next generation will get that is something many old cricketers have missed,” the 33-year-old said while speaking ahead of the of the T20I tri-series opener against South Africa, as quoted by the Circle of Cricket.
Kaur continued by saying, “Everyone is happy about this and we are waiting for it to start. Personally, for me, it will be a big achievement to participate in that. There can be no bigger achievement for women’s cricket than this. This is a big step and all women cricketers were waiting for this opportunity for a long time."
"And finally the time has come. The amount of response we are getting from everyone is outstanding. That was the reason we wanted to express our feelings on social media,” the power-hitter concluded.

India’s women’s players have already participated in franchise cricket. Several big names, including the likes of Harmanpreet, have the experience of playing WBBL as well as The Hundred. This will help the players to comfortably mould into the requirements of franchise cricket, thereby making WIPL an interesting aspect.
