[WATCH] AUS vs IND 2025: Shreyas Iyer's sensational catch leads to unfortunate injury, hobbles off SCG

Shreyas Iyer timed his jump to perfection after running back from backward point to execute a stunning catch to dismiss Alex Carey during the third ODI of the three-match series between Australia and India in Sydney on Saturday, October 25. Iyer headed off the field with the team physio in quite some discomfort after landing awkwardly on the ground.

The partnership between Carey and Matt Renshaw was broken by Harshit Rana. Carey intended to slap the short-of-a-length ball down the ground. However, the left-handed batter ended up slicing the ball a long way up in the air towards the region between backward point and third man. Iyer ran back at full tilt while keeping his eyes on the ball to cling onto it in the end.

Despite getting some treatment by the physio as well as being tended to by his team members, Iyer looked in immense pain and was clutching onto his abdominal region. He hobbled off the SCG with the physio, as he could not continue fielding for the time being. It remains to be seen whether Iyer will participate further in the match when India come out to bat during the run-chase.

Drinks were called on the ground. Harshit picked up his first wicket of the match after conceding 21 runs in his first four overs. The pacer picked up his second wicket briefly later. A hard length from Harshit was edged away to Rohit Sharma at first slip. The slop had just been introduced for Mitchell Owen, the new batter, who had to depart for 1 off 4.

Speaking of the series, the hosts have already won it by emerging on top in the first two ODIs. They won the first and second matches by seven wickets and two wickets, respectively. The five-match T20I series is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, October 29.
