Ace batter Joe Root and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja were involved in a light-hearted moment right at the end of the first day of the third Test of the ongoing five-match series between England and India. This was on the fourth ball of the final over of the day's play at Lord's, the iconic cricketing venue in London.
A back-of-a-length delivery by Akash Deep was punched off the back foot by Root towards backward point towards Jadeja for a single. With this, Root moved one run shy of his 37th Test ton. Jadeja fielded the ball at deep backward point and teased Root into attempting the second run to get to the hundred. But with the rocket throw he has, it was not going to be easy at all for the 35-year-old, as he denied the chance.
Apart from the gesturing, he even dropped the ball on the ground to test Root. However, the former English skipper had a huge smile on his face as he resisted the temptation to proceed for the extra run. He ended up stranded on 99 on the other end at Stumps. Root will have an opportunity to get to the landmark on the second day of the Test now.

Flying ants lead to interruption of play at Lord's on Day 1
England ended the day on 251/4 at the end of 83 overs. Accompanying the seasoned batter at the other end was skipper Ben Stokes. The England captain ended proceedings with a solid 39 off 102 deliveries. Jadeja was one of the picks from the Indian unit. He conceded just 26 runs in 10 overs while picking up the important wicket of Harry Brook.
Nitish Kumar Reddy struck with the first couple of breakthroughs of the morning. He dismissed Ben Duckett (23 off 40) and Zak Crawley (18 off 43) in the same over. Ollie Pope combined with Root well. However, he was dismissed by Jadeja on 44, which was also the first ball of the post-Tea session.
