Indian captain Shubman Gill gave umpire Sharfuddoula a mouthful after he wasn't pleased with the condition of the ball that was given as a replacement on Day 2 of the third Test at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground in London on Friday, July 11.
The tourists bowled 17 deliveries with the second new ball on Day 1 of the Lord's Test on Thursday. Eight overs into Day 2, India urged the on-field umpires to have a look at the condition of the ball. The umpire brought out the hoop, and the ball didn't go through it. The second new ball was about 10 overs old at that point.
The umpire decided to change the ball, and the Indians were initially happy with the call. However, after the ball change, Shubman wasn't too pleased as he was seen having an animated discussion with umpire Sharfuddoula, who had a hard time pacifying the situation. "This is 10-overs old ball? Seriously?" Mohammed Siraj was heard saying on the Stump mic.

Before the ball was changed, India got three wickets on Day 2, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed centurion Joe Root, England captain Ben Stokes and all-rounder Chris Woakes. However, since the replacement ball was handed, India have had to toil hard, with runs coming freely for the pair of Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse.
From 260/4, England had slumped to 271/7 inside the first five overs on Day 2. However, the Three Lions have gone past the 350-run mark in quick time on the back of Smith and Carse's counterattacking batting. The in-form Smith brought up his half-century in the 105th over, flicking a delivery bowled to his pads by Nitish Kumar Reddy. The wicketkeeper-batter got to the milestone off just 52 deliveries.

Despite the setbacks at the start of the day, England have managed to get themselves into a good position thanks to the Smith-Carse partnership. At Lunch, they have got to a score of 353/7. The hosts will have their eyes on a 400-plus total in the first innings, with Jofra Archer, who can hold his own with the willow, yet to bat.
