Star Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is all set to represent the three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He was expected to be one of the hot picks in the highly-anticipated auction, which is being held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16.

Green surpassed compatriot Mitchell Starc (INR 24.75 crore) to become the most expensive overseas buy at an IPL auction. This was after KKR defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in an intense bidding war. The Knights were always going to be the favourites to bag the all-rounder as they had a much superior budget than the Super Kings heading into the auction.

Interestingly, the Mumbai Indians opened the bidding for Green at his base price of INR 2 crore. The five-time champions knew they were never going to sign the 26-year-old with their purse of INR 2.75 crore. However, when Akash Ambani lifted the paddle, it did leave some in the room and many on social media in splits.

Rajasthan Royals toppled Mumbai Indians and continued bidding till INR 13.40 crore before backing out. CSK joined in with a bid of INR 13.80 crore and looked quite determined to acquire Green's services. However, the Knights remained confident and eventually signed the youngster for INR 25.20 crore.

Green has previously played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. However, he couldn't play last season due to a back injury. Now, the Perth-born is fit and playing in the ongoing Ashes. KKR, having released Andre Russell last month, will be elated to have added a similarly destructive all-rounder to their ranks ahead of IPL 2026.
