India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana stepped out publicly for the first time after confirming that her wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal has been called off. The star batter, who has spent the past week clearing the air around her personal life, was spotted at the airport before returning to training.
Speculation around Mandhana’s personal life has grabbed significant attention in recent weeks, especially after the postponement of her wedding ceremonies and the sudden silence from both families. On December 7, Mandhana addressed the situation directly, confirming that the wedding had been officially cancelled. She requested privacy and made it clear that her priority remained cricket and representing India.
Meanwhile, she was recently named in India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, and her brother Shravan recently shared pictures of her back on the training ground. The southpaw's first public appearance came at the Delhi airport, where she was photographed wearing a blue sweater and a black mask.
Smriti Mandhana officially calls off wedding with Palash
Her statement last week addressed the situation that the wedding with Palash Muchhal had been called off, and she wished to close the matter respectfully. She admitted that the ongoing rumours had become overwhelming, especially given her private nature, and urged fans and media to stop speculating.
"Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life, and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way, but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off. I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same. I request you to please respect the privacy of both families at this time and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace. I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all, and for me, that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible, and that is where my focus will forever be. Thank you for all your support. It’s time to move forward," she said.
Mandhana has also shared a promotional video on Instagram where she speaks about handling chaos with calmness. Although it was part of a brand partnership, the post triggered conversation among fans who connected it to her recent experience. Notably, Mandhana is set to lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League starting January 9 in Navi Mumbai.
