Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav produced a moment of brilliance in the field to dismiss Roston Chase during Match No. 52 of the T20 World Cup 2026 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on March 1. The stunning catch came at a crucial stage, as Jasprit Bumrah delivered a game-changing over to tighten India’s grip on the West Indies innings.
Bumrah bowled the 12th over of the match and struck twice to shift the momentum firmly in India’s favour. On the fifth ball of the over, he bowled a clever slower delivery that climbed sharply on Chase. The West Indies batter committed early to the shot and ended up lobbing the ball off the splice of his bat. Suryakumar reacted instantly, sprinting to his right before launching himself full stretch. He timed his dive to perfection and managed to get both hands to the ball and held on brilliantly, dismissing Chase for a well-made 40 off 25 balls.

Earlier in the same over, Bumrah had already removed the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer. The right-arm pacer bowled a short-of-length delivery that angled across the left-hander and tempted Hetmyer into an ambitious slog across the line. The batter got an inside edge, and the ball carried through cleanly to wicketkeeper Sanju Samson. The umpire raised his finger, and replays confirmed the dismissal, with UltraEdge showing a clear spike. Hetmyer departed for a quickfire 27 off 12 balls.
India entered the contest having qualified for the Super Eight stage with wins over Pakistan, USA, Namibia, and the Netherlands. After losing their first Super Eight fixture to South Africa, they bounced back strongly against Zimbabwe. With this clash effectively serving as a virtual quarter-final, the stakes are extremely high.
West Indies, meanwhile, progressed to the Super Eight after defeating England, Nepal, Italy, and Scotland. They beat Zimbabwe in their first Super Eight match but suffered a loss to South Africa, making this encounter crucial in the race for a semifinal spot alongside South Africa, England, and New Zealand.
