Sheldon Cottrell put on his shooting boots to catch Sarel Erwee short of his crease during Match 2 of the World Championship of Legends 2025 between West Indies Champions and South Africa Champions. Erwee had to walk back for an 18-ball 27 after looking set at the crease alongside Jean-Paul Duminy during South Africa's run-chase of 81.

The sequence of events started when Cottrell bowled a delivery which angled into Duminy's pads. The southpaw could only manage an inside edge which ricocheted off his pads towards the off side. Cottrell was prompt in changing his direction from his original follow-through to make his way towards the ball and unleash the ball off the inner portion of his right foot to run Erwee out.

West Indies Champions ended up on the losing side as the AB de Villiers-led side emerged victorious via a bowl-out after the Proteas scored one short of the DLS target after their quota of 11 overs. The match was reduced to an 11-overs-a-side-contest after rain delayed the proceedings at Edgbaston.

JJ Smuts and Wayne Parnell were on target for South Africa in the bowl-out. The first three attempts by the opposition were extremely close chances, one of which was that of Cottrell too. However, after the fourth ball had missed, South Africa were declared winners.

Duminy was awarded the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 12-ball 25, which comprised one four and a couple of sixes. Cottrell ended up with miserly figures of 2/16 in three overs. Aaron Phangiso starred with the ball for South Africa. The left-arm spinner secured a couple of wickets while conceding only 19 runs in his first two overs.
