Ahead of the upcoming three-match home Test series against England, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has exuded confidence that his team will succeed in winning the series and thereby, stay in contention for a place in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023 final.

Furthermore, Azam added that the Pakistani bowlers including the likes of youngster Naseem Shah will give a tough time to the English batters in the upcoming red-ball series. At the same time, he also mentioned that the home side has some edge and momentum as they are well-prepared.

This is an important series: Babar Azam

“We are excited about that prospect of playing the WTC final. This is an important series. We have a golden chance to achieve that if we win four of the five Tests to come," said Babar Azam as quoted by NDTV.

"We got around a week to prepare for the series so that was great and has given us some edge and momentum. The best thing was that domestic first class matches were on so some of the players were already playing red ball cricket,” he added.

"Our bowling is good and will give a tough time to England. Naseem (Shah) has been bowling well and whatever England have been doing I have that confidence and the belief that they will give their best to give us wins,” the batting superstar said.

As of now, it is a daunting task for Pakistan to be in the WTC final contention as they are currently at the fifth position in the points table with a PCT of 51.85 with 56 points from nine Tests having won four, lost three and drawn two of them.

Pakistan are also scheduled to host New Zealand for two Tests in December-January and thus, they have a golden opportunity to make the most of their home series in the coming months with the competition in the WTC points table heating up.
