We believe the team we have is capable of playing in any conditions, says Bangladesh captain Shanto

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed confidence in his team's ability to perform in any conditions as the Tigers prepare for the second Test against Australia in Mackay. Bangladesh hold a 1-0 lead in the two-match series after claiming a historic nine-wicket victory in Darwin from August 13-16, 2026, marking their first Test-match win in Australia.

The second Test begins on Saturday, August 22, at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay and runs until August 26, 2026.

Shanto addressed the media ahead of the match. The Bangladesh captain emphasised that his team's focus remains on executing their process correctly rather than looking too far ahead. He stated that the important thing is how well the team plays each day and each session, and that if they follow the process properly, the result will come automatically.

"Because we won this last match, we have been able to send a positive message, and we believe that the team we have is capable of playing in any conditions," Shanto said.

Shanto elaborated on his team's approach to the series, emphasising the importance of focusing on immediate performance rather than distant outcomes. He explained that the team's strategy centres on executing the right processes consistently across each day and session.

"No, I don't want to think that far ahead; I have been saying this from the beginning that we want to play good cricket," Shanto said.

Process over looking ahead

The Bangladesh players have adjusted well during their two days of practice in Mackay. Shanto pointed out that experienced members of the squad have been guiding younger players on the importance of repeating the right processes in the change room. He stressed that the team should continue to play and compete, as not playing would prevent them from improving themselves and showing what they are capable of in world cricket.
