The Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction got underway as franchises firmed up their squads after they released a bunch of players during players retentions in November. Like any other franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad have ideated plans and reinforced their squads with the likes of few fresh faces ahead of the new season.

This includes young Vivrant Sharma, who is all set to don the Sunrisers outfit ahead of the new season. The Jammu and Kashmir opener entered the auction for INR 20 lakh and started a mini bidding war between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who were raising their paddles to procure the services of the player. Eventually, Hyderabad took the lead in the bidding war and thereby acquired Vivrant for a massive 2.6 crore.

The 23-year-old J&K player relished a productive domestic season as he helped the side to the Vijay Hazare Trophy knockouts for the first time this year. Vivrant stroked an unbeaten 154 runs from 124 deliveries which included 18 boundaries and six maximums, as J&K defeated Uttarakhand by nine wickets earlier in November. His impressive outing garnered a lot of attention from the scouts of the IPL franchises ahead of the mini-auction.

The 23-year-old batter took up the sport as his elder brother, Vikrant used to play club cricket in Jammu. At the age of 12, Vivrant started off batting right-handed but after paying attention to his brother who would bat left-handed, he decided to become a southpaw.

The young all-rounder has featured in nine T20 outings and has amassed 191 runs at decent strike rate of 128.18. Adding to this, he has also racked up six wickets in his three innings in the shortest format with 4/13 being his best bowling figures.

His last T20 match came against Services in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) as he scored 50 runs from 32 balls which included three sixes and three fours at a stunning strike rate of 156.25. Now, the young lad is set to make his appearance in the cash-rich league for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the franchise will be delighted to have secured his services for the potential he holds.
