Why is Maheesh Theekshana not playing IPL 2024 Match 29 between MI vs CSK?

The biggest game of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) is about to get underway as Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 29 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first keeping the past record of the venue in mind.

Coming into the game on the back of a win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), CSK made a change to their playing XI as they benched Maheesh Theekshana. The Sri Lankan spinner hasn’t had a memorable season so far having picked up just two wickets from three matches at an average of 45.50 and an economy of 7.58.

Theekshana has been replaced by Matheesha Pathirana who missed the last two matches for his due to a niggle. The 21-year-old has scalped four wickets in the season so far from two matches at an average of 15 and an economy of 7.50. He was the pick of the bowlers in their fixture against Delhi Capitals (DC) as he picked three wickets giving away 31 runs from four overs.

On the other hand, Mumbai didn’t make any changes to their playing XI coming into the game on the back of consecutive victories against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after losing their first three matches.
