Bangladesh are set to play their second match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against the in-form South Africa at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.
Notably, Soumya Sarkar has not been included in this match as Bangladesh have decided to adopt a different strategy. Reports suggest that Sarkar has been dropped because of scoring a duck against Sri Lanka in their previous match. The Tigers have brought in Jaker Ali Anik as a replacement for Sarkar. In this scenario, Litton Das is expected to return to opening the batting alongside Tanzid Hasan Tamim.
After the toss, Najmul Shanto expressed his satisfaction with the decision. Shanto acknowledged the support from the crowd and highlighted the importance of their recent win against Sri Lanka. He mentioned the team's hard work and optimism for a special performance in the match. Shanto also noted their struggle with finding an effective leg-spinner, but now they have one who takes wickets, and praised the overall performance of the bowlers.
"I wanted to bowl, so happy to bowl first. We have one change, Soumya Sarkar not playing, Jaker Ali comes in. We feel good to see the crowds come out here and support us. (On Sri Lanka win) It was an important win, the boys have done a lot of hard work and hopefully we can do something special today. We have been struggling with a leggie, finally we have got one who takes wickets. All the bowlers have been performing really well," Shanto said after the toss.
