'Will talk with our captain and take a call'- Ricky Ponting after Delhi's third-straight loss of ongoing season
"If I watch these boys train and prepare, their work has been really good but it hasn’t just come across as any results yet on the field," says Ricky Ponting.

Ricky Ponting, head coach of Delhi Capitals (DC), seems unhappy with his side's performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). On Saturday, April 8, DC suffered a defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati. With the loss, the David Warner-led team became the first to lose three games in a row this season.
Following DC's third straight loss in the tournament, Ponting had to admit that the team is a long way off from competing. He agreed that it's becoming increasingly difficult to determine the exact cause of the problem. He pointed out that while training, all of the players performed well, but this hasn't yet translated into any results on the pitch.
“We are a long way off right now and I can’t put my finger on why. If I watch these boys train and prepare, their work has been really good but it hasn’t just come across as any results yet on the field. So if I could put my finger on it, I would change it,” Ponting told reporters after the loss as quoted by News18.
The former Australia skipper was honest in admitting that the current playing combinations haven't worked for Capitals. He went on to say that the coaching staff will have a discussion with the captain regarding the same.
“We have to think about players we are putting on the ground as what we have put in hasn’t worked, as a coaching group we will talk with our captain and take a call,” Ponting added.
RR beat DC by 57 runs in Guwahati
Coming to the match, Warner won the toss and chose to field first. The move, however, was ineffective because the RR batters had a blast. The Sanju Samson-led side scored 199 for 4 in 20 overs, thanks to half-centuries from openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler.
Delhi skipper scored a half-century, but it wasn't enough to secure victory as they were restricted to 142 for 9. DC have now lost three games in a row, falling to Lucknow Super Giants by 50 runs, Gujarat Titans by six wickets, and Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs. Following two heartbreaking defeats, they return home on April 11 to face the five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
