Courtesy of a scintillating top-order performance by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, Rajasthan Royals posted a humongous 200-run target against Delhi Capitals. Notably, the two sides squared off at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati in the first game of the double-header on Saturday, April 8, in the IPL 2023.
Sanju Samson and Co. were put in to bat first and quickly owned the first innings through and through. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler swiftly hit the ground running and got the boundaries with ease to give their side a terrific head start.
Jaiswal breathed fire as he hammered 11 boundaries and one maximum in his swift 31-ball 60. Moreover, the duo put up a 98-run stand for the first wicket which kept the side steady in the innings. However, Jaiswal was sent back to the pavilion by Mukesh Kumar following a mis-time upon which the latter comfortably pouched the ball.
Last edition’s Orange Cap holder, Jos Buttler played his natural game and cruised to his fifty off just 32 balls. Getting into his zone, Buttler smacked one maximum and 11 boundaries, similar to that of Yashasvi Jaiswal and inched closer towards his maiden century this season. However, much like his opening partner, the English batter too was dismissed caught and bowled by Mukesh for 79 off 51 balls.
Shimron Hetmyer helps Royals finish big
Soon after the dismissals of the opening duo, a lot was expected from skipper Samson and Riyan Parag to fire in tandem. However, Kuldeep got the vital scalp of the rival skipper whereas Rovman Powell completely ripped through the stumps to dismiss Parag for a collective total of seven runs.
Explosive Caribbean batter, Shimron Hetmyer took the crease along with young Dhruv Jurel and concluded the innings on a high-note. The southpaw slammed a quickfire 21-ball 39 which included four maximums and one boundary whereas Jurel got one six to his name in his unbeaten eight runs. As RR wrapped up the innings with 199 runs on the board, it remains to be seen if David Warner and Co. can give the rival side a run for their money.
