India Women created history by defeating South Africa Women by 52 runs in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday, November 2, to lift their first-ever World Cup title in 52 years.

Batting first, India posted an impressive 298 runs despite a two-hour rain interruption, with no overs lost. Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma were instrumental in steering India to a commanding total, displaying patience and power in equal measure. In reply, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt fought valiantly with a magnificent century, but her effort went in vain as Deepti produced a brilliant bowling spell, claiming a five-wicket haul to seal India’s triumph.

Shafali was named Player of the Match for her match-defining innings, while Deepti bagged the Player of the Tournament award for her all-round excellence throughout the competition.

Women’s World Cup 2025: How Much Prize Money Will Each Indian Player Receive?

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a record INR 123 crore prize pool for the 2025 edition, nearly four times more than the INR 31 crore offered in the 2022 tournament in New Zealand. Remarkably, this also surpassed the INR 89 crore prize pool from the 2023 Men’s World Cup.

From the total amount, India will receive approximately INR 40 crore as champions, while South Africa, the runners-up, will earn close to INR 20 crore. In comparison, Australia, the 2022 winners, received INR 12 crore.

In addition, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a special reward of INR 51 crore for the players and support staff. Although the exact distribution is yet to be confirmed, reports suggest that each player and head coach Amol Muzumdar are expected to receive INR 2-3 crore each, while members of the support staff may be awarded INR 20-30 lakh each.

With this victory, India Women have etched their names in cricketing history, marking the dawn of a new era for women’s cricket in the country.
