Women's World Cup 2025: India Women to begin preparation with week-long camp in Visakhapatnam

With more than a month left for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, the Indian women’s cricket team is set to come together in Visakhapatnam for a week-long conditioning camp starting August 25.

India will play two big matches at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, against South Africa on October 9 and against Australia on October 12. Notably, only three players in the current squad, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Sneh Rana, have prior experience of playing at this ground, back in 2014. With most of the team unfamiliar with the venue’s conditions, the camp is expected to be important for acclimatization and strategy-building.

Notably, the training sessions were initially planned in Bengaluru. However, due to the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s inability to secure police clearance for matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the camp was relocated to Visakhapatnam.

Camp to conclude two intra-squad games

The camp will feature all members of India’s World Cup squad, including reserves and India A players chosen for warm-up fixtures. Over the course of the week, the focus will be on skill-based training, fine-tuning match strategies, and adapting to the playing conditions at Vizag. The camp will conclude with two intra-squad day-night practice matches.

This training is part of India’s roadmap leading into the World Cup. After the Visakhapatnam camp, the Women in Blue will travel to New Chandigarh for a three-match ODI series against Australia starting September 16. The first two games will be played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, while the final ODI is scheduled at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Following the ODI series, India will return to Bengaluru for two official World Cup warm-ups, against England on September 25 and New Zealand on September 27. Meanwhile, the tournament kicks off on September 30, with India facing Sri Lanka in their opening clash in Guwahati. The India-Pakistan fixture will follow on October 5 in Colombo, before the team returns to Vizag for their double-header against South Africa and Australia.
