Women's World Cup 2025: Maharashtra government to award INR 2.25 crore prize money to Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Radha Yadav

Three players from Maharashtra — Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav will receive a cash prize of INR 2.25 crore each by the Maharashtra government for being part of the squad that won the Women's World Cup 2025. India Women recently won their maiden ICC title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final on November 2 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

Head coach Amol Muzumdar, who hails from Mumbai, will also be rewarded with a cash prize of INR 22.5 lakh. Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, while announcing the Cabinet's decision, also remarked that the entire women’s cricket team will be felicitated when it visits Mumbai.

“Today, the Cabinet has passed a resolution to congratulate the women’s cricket team which has done a glorious job of winning the ICC World Cup. Similarly, three players from Maharashtra, Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana and Radha Yadav, will be felicitated by the Maharashtra government and will be given a cash prize as per our policy. They have made the country proud,” stated Fadnavis, as quoted by The Hindu.

The government's sports policy outlines that players winning gold medals in World Cups, World Championships or Para World Championships are to be given INR 2.25 crore each, while the coaches will receive INR 22.5 lakh. On the other hand, players winning gold in the Olympics or Paralympics receive INR 3.75 crore, while the coaches take home INR 37.5 lakh.  

The prize money awarded by the government is different for athletes securing gold in the Asian Games or Commonwealth Games. They are provided INR 75 lakh each. Meanwhile, Chess Olympiad champions receive a sum of INR 1 crore.

While Radha only played three matches (last league match, semi-final and final), Smriti and Jemimah played nine and eight games, respectively. Shafali Verma (87 off 78 and 2/36 in 7 overs) and Deepti Sharma (215 runs and 22 wickets) were awarded the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament accolades, respectively.

The Women in Blue finished fourth in the league phase. However, they brought their A-game to the fore in the knockouts to emerge as the title-winning team. The Women in Blue will next take on Australia in an all-format series spanning February and March next year.
