Yorkshire haven't hit their strides as yet in the County Championship Division Two as they have only one win under their belt fter playing seven matches. With seven more games to play, there is very little scope for slip-ups. To make matters even more difficult, their captain Shan Masood will be leaving as he has been picked in Pakistan's squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
Yorkshire have reacted quickly and roped in South African international Ryan Rickelton for three games. The wicketkeeper-batter has represented the Proteas in four Tests and two ODIs and his numbers in first-class cricket are exceptional, as he averages 53.80 in 47 matches.
The 26-year-old played for Northants in the County Championship last season and had a staggering average of 77. Meanwhile, Yorkshire managing director Darren Gough lauded Rickelton and said that his experience of playing at the highest level will come in handy for the team.
"It's getting harder and harder to get good overseas players - so to get someone of his calibre to come over and represent us for the next three matches is brilliant," Gough told the club website. "As a club - we felt we needed a bit more experience. Ryan has played at the highest level - he is a very good cricketer - he's gutsy and he is young and has lots of energy - he's someone we need."
Ryan Rickelton to make Yorkshire debut on July 10
Rickelton is all set to make his debut for Yorkshire on July 10, Monday. The White Rose will take on Worcestershire at the New Road stadium in Worcester. Ricketon played his last Test match for South Africa against the West Indies at The Wanderers Stadium in March. Yorkshire will hope that the talented South African will replicate his performances from last season and help them get to a stronger position by the time his three-match contract ends.
