Wiaan Mulder is on a roll at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo in the second Test between South Africa and Zimbabwe. The South African all-rounder is leading the Proteas for the first time in Test cricket as Keshav Maharaj is unavailable due to injury. Mulder celebrated is celebrating the appointment by playing a record-shattering knock against Craig Ervine and Co.
The 27-year-old came out to bat at No. 3 in the first session on Day 1 (Sunday, July 6) after Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to field first. He smashed the Zimbabwean bowlers all around the park and remained unbeaten on 264 off 259 balls at Stumps.
On Day 2, Mulder brought up his maiden triple century on the 12th over of the day. He got a kind low full toss onto the boots from Tanaka Chivanga and he easily clipped it towards deep square leg to bring up the milestone. Mulder became only the second South African batter to score a triple century. Hashim Amla was the first Proteas batter to achieve the phenomenal feat.
Mulder brought up his triple century in just 297 balls, making it the second fastest Test triple century in the game's history, only behind Virender Sehwag, who got there in 278 deliveries versus South Africa in Chennai in 2008.
Mulder hit three boundaries a couple of overs later to go past Amla's highest score of 311* against England in London in 2012. South Africa lost the wicket of Dewald Brevis in the early goings of the morning session. The youngster was dismissed for 30 by Kundai Matigimu. Since then, Kyle Verreynne has given good support to Mulder, who is going from strength to strength against the Zimbabwean bowlers, who are going through the motions in Bulawayo.
Mulder was already playing aggressively, but he went into overdrive after reaching his triple century. The right-handed batter 27 balls to get to 350 from 300. He became only the seventh batter in Test cricket history to score 350.

At the end of the first session on Day 2, the 27-year-old all-rounder finished unbeaten on 367 off 334 balls, belting 49 fours and four sixes. All eyes will be on his as he is closing in on Brian Lara's record for the most number of runs scored by a batter in a Test innings. The former West Indies captain made 400* against England in Antigua in 2004.
