The St Lawrence Ground will host the opening unofficial Test of the two-match series between England Lions and India A from May 30 to June 02.
India A will be led by Abhimanyu Easwaran, who will look to fine-tune their red-ball skills in the lead-up to the blockbuster five-Test series between India and England starting June 20. Notably, seven players from the A squad - Easwaran, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Dhruv Jurel, Shardul Thakur, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Akash Deep, are also part of the senior Indian Test squad.
Left-hander Sai Sudharsan is set to join the India A squad for the second fixture, before the side plays in an intra-squad game against the senior team starting June 13 in Beckenham. Notably, India's new Test skipper Shubman Gill, who was set to join India A for the second unofficial Test, is likely to miss it as the team management has decided to give him rest ahead of the Test series.
The England Lions will be captained for the first time by Somerset wicketkeeper-batter James Rew. The squad consists of new talents and experienced players, including veteran pacer Chris Woakes, who returns from an ankle injury. Essex batter Jordan Cox and leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed also made it to the cut, alongside young talents like Josh Hull and Rocky Flintoff, son of England legend Andrew Flintoff.
