IPL 2024, Match 24: Rajasthan Royals vs Gujarat Titans Match Preview

The iconic Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur is set to host match 24 of the ongoing IPL 2024 featuring Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday, April 10.

Rajasthan Royals have been in red-hot form this season so far. With four wins in four games, they are sitting comfortably on the top of the table. Also, after Kolkata Knight Riders lost to Chennai Super Kings on Monday, April 8, Rajasthan remain the only unbeaten team in the tournament thus far.

The Royals have picked up wins against Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. All their wins came at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium except for the one against Mumbai, which was an away fixture. In the last game against the Royal Challengers, Rajasthan made light work of an 184-run target, as they chased it down with six wickets and five balls to spare. Virat Kohli scored a century in the first innings but Jos Buttler's 58-ball 100 not out helped Rajasthan win at a canter.

Riyan Parag (185 runs from four matches) and skipper Sanju Samson (178 runs from four matches) are among the top five run-getters in the league so far. Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal is second on the list of leading wicket-takers, having bagged eight wickets from four games at a mind-boggling average of 11.12. The likes of Trent Boult and Nandre Burger have also been in excellent form. Avesh Khan has also bowled really well at the death.

Gujarat Titans have had a disappointing start to their season, having won two and lost three out of their five games. They are placed at No. 7 on the points table. After beginning with a win against Mumbai Indians, the Shubman Gill-led side suffered a heavy defeat against Chennai Super Kings. However, they bounced back to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad comfortably. In their last couple of games, the former champions have gone down to Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.

Like Rajasthan, Gujarat also have two of their players in the top five leading run-scorers' list. While Sai Sudharsan has scored 191 runs, Gill has accumulated 183 runs from five games each. Mohit Sharma has been the stadout bowler for Gujarat as he has bagged seven wickets from five matches at 23.57. However, the Titans haven't managed to play as a unit.

The absence of star players like Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami is being felt. Another key player, David Miller, is expected to miss the next few games due to an injury. The franchise has only seen good times since its inception in 2022. This is the first time they are having to dig deep and pick themselves out of a precarious position. It will be intriguing to see how they respond.

Sawai Mansingh Stadium Pitch Report and Conditions

The average first-innings score was 171 runs at this venue last season. This year, in the three matches that have been played, the average first innings score has been 187. Two out of the three games were won by the team that batted first. In the last game between RCB and RR, Virat Kohli scored the second-slowest century in IPL history after Sanju won the toss and opted to bowl first. Faf du Plessis said after the match that the RCB batters found the pitch to be tricky in the first innings. Rajasthan chased the 184-run target with consummate ease. Dew also played its part in the second innings and made batting easier. The captain who wins the toss could opt to bowl first and take advantage of the dew factor.

RR vs GT Probable Playing XI

Having won four games in a row, Rajasthan do not need to tinker with their playing XI. Jos Buttler's century in the last game would give the team a lot of confidence and if Yashasvi can get back among the runs in this encounter, it will make things even better for the first-ever IPL champions.

Wriddhiman Saha missed out on the last game due to back spasm. BR Sharath, who replaced the veteran, couldn't make much of an impact. The former India wicketkeeper has been short of runs this season but his experience could be crucial for the Titans. If he is fit, Saha should be back into the XI. Other than this, the Titans should be going in with the same XI unless any last-minute niggle emerges.
