Despite being very close to registering their first win in the ongoing T20 World Cup, South Africa had to share a point with Zimbabwe after rain spoiled their first Super 12 game on Monday, October 24. Thus, with redemption and the goal of qualifying for the semi-finals in mind, the Temba Bavuma-led side will take on Bangladesh on October 27 at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground.
Talking about Bangladesh, the Shakib Al Hasan-led side were in terrible form coming into the mega tournament but found success against the Netherlands in their previous match. Despite that, their batting remains to be a concern. Afif Hossain played a mature knock of 38 off 27 balls while Mosaddek Hossain played a much-needed cameo at the end.
Now, with all the other senior players either being retired or not considered for selection, Shakib has the pressure of leading by example and he didn't deliver in the first game. He scored just seven with the bat and only picked up one wicket while giving away 32 runs with the ball.
Coming to the bowlers, Taskin Ahmed was phenomenal in the previous match. The 27-year-old picked up four wickets at an economy of 6.25. Their bowling looked good and now, it’s time for the batters to do the talking.
On the other hand, South Africa are one of the favourites to qualify for the semis of the multi-nation tournament. However, with a no result against Zimbabwe, things might get a little complicated and thus, a win is all they need at the moment.
Their team is pretty much ready as the pacers were breathing fire in the last match. Opener Quinton De Kock played only three overs and that was enough for him to wreak havoc in Hobart. The Southpaw scored 47 off 18 balls and that’s the kind of damage he can do upfront. The rest of the batters were not tested but against Bangladesh, they can come into the picture.
Pitch Conditions
The pitch in Sydney is not as quick as the other pitches in Australia. It can also get slower with time. Thus, batting first will be ideal instead of chasing down a total. Anything above 170 is a good score to defend.
Playing Combinations for SA vs BAN
South Africa:
The Proteas are expected to field the same playing XI. Against Zimbabwe, the team played well and thus, there’s no reason to alter it.
Quinton de Kock (wk), Temba Bavuma (c), Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Wayne Parnell, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi
Bangladesh:
Bangladesh's batting line-up needs a shake-up to counter the Proteas bowlers but it’s very unlikely that the team management would change personnel after their win in the last match.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, Soumya Sarkar, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Afif Hossain, Yasir Ali, Nurul Hasan (wk), Mosaddek Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud
