AFG vs BAN 2025, 2nd ODI: Zadran, Omarzai and Rashid give Afghanistan big win in low-scoring affair

Afghanistan took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh by emerging triumphant in the second game by 81 runs. It was a low-scoring affair which yet again went in the favour of the hosts, this time while defending the total.

Opting to bat first, Afghanistan got off to a decent start inside the powerplay. Rahmat Shah hobbled off retired hurt after the second ball of the 15th over. By the end of 30 overs, half of the Afghan side was back in the shed. Ibrahim Zadran got to his half-century, holding one end strong. Zadran missed out on his ninth ODI ton by five runs as Mehidy picked up his third wicket in his final over.

Rahmat came in hobbling to add as many runs as possible for the last wicket. However, he had to be carried out on a wheelchair after he was down on the ground after a Rishad Hossain delivery struck his left leg.

Coming to the run-chase, Tanzid Hasan was dismissed for a five-ball duck in the very first over. Omarzai got the better of Saif Hassan after the batter struck him for a four and a six on the previous couple of deliveries. Bangladesh struggled to build partnerships as Mehidy was the fourth wicket to fall while Rashid Khan secured his first wicket of the game by cleaning up Towhid Hridoy for 24 off 34.

By the time Bangladesh got to 100, they had lost eight wickets and were in a dire state. The final two wickets were taken by Rashid as the spin-bowling all-rounder ended up with figures of 5/17 in 8.3 overs. Zadran secured the Player of the Match award for his composed 140-ball knock 95 which involved a lot of running.
