Brief Scores: Australia U19 — 243 (91.2 overs); Steven Hogan — 92 (246 balls; 4s × 8, 6s × 0); Deepesh Devendran — 5/45 (10 overs)

India U19 bowlers completely outclassed their Australia U-19 on the opening day of the first youth Test at Ian Healy Oval, Brisbane. The Australians won the toss and opted to bat first but struggled against a disciplined Indian attack, being bowled out for 243 runs.

The Indian pace battery struck early, dismissing the openers cheaply. Alex Turner managed just 9 runs, while Alex Lee Young scored 18 before falling. Steven Hogan tried to steady the innings with a patient knock, forming small partnerships with the middle order, but wickets kept tumbling at the other end. Hogan’s resistance stood out as he scored 92 off 246 balls, including eight boundaries, holding one end against relentless Indian bowling.

Australia U19 captain Will Malajczuk contributed 21 runs off 45 balls, and Zed Hollick made 38 off 94 deliveries. The wicketkeeper-batter Simon Budge added 15 from 46 balls. However, the lower order failed to provide meaningful support. Tom Hogan (8), John James (13), Aryan Sharma (9), and Thomas Paddington (0) fell cheaply, while Hayden Schiller remained unbeaten on 10 from 13 balls.

The visitors' bowling was spearheaded by right-arm pacer Deepesh Devendran, who finished with impressive figures of 5 for 45 in 16.2 overs. Kishan Kumar supported well with 3 wickets for 48 runs in 16 overs, while Anmoljeet Singh and Khilan Patel picked up one wicket each. The disciplined Indian attack ensured Australia U19 never gained a foothold in their innings.

On Day 2, India U19 will look to capitalize on their momentum and score big to reduce Australia’s first-innings lead. With such a commanding performance on the opening day, India U19 have set the tone for a competitive Test and will aim to continue their dominance in the remaining days of the match.

The team has been in impressive form on this tour, having previously whitewashed Australia A 3-0 in the ODI series. Vedant Trivedi was the standout with the bat, scoring 173 runs across three matches, while Kanishk Chouhan led the bowling with six wickets, sealing the series comfortably.
