England won the third Test at the historic Lord's Cricket Ground by 22 runs to take a 2-1 lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with two games left to play.
The final day of the Test match was intriguingly poised, with India needing another 135 runs with six wickets to spare. The onus was on KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant to take the tourists closer to the target. However, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer were on the money from the outset in the morning session and made life difficult for the Indian batters.
Archer gave England their first breakthrough on Day 5 as he bowled a pearler to send Pant packing. Rahul got a peach of a nip-backer from Stokes a few overs later, and India were in a spot of bother at 81/6. Things went from bad to worse for the Asian giants as Washington Sundar was caught superbly by Archer off his own bowling. From 71/4, India slumped to 82/7 and were staring down the barrel.
Nitish Kumar Reddy joined forces with Ravindra Jadeja, and the duo tried to take the game deep by showing a lot of grit and determination with the bat. However, Reddy was dismissed by Chris Woakes at the stroke of Lunch. India lost four wickets in the morning session as Stokes led the way by bowling a 9.2-over spell upfront.
All hopes rested on Jadeja, who only had Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj for company. Bumrah gave good support to the Saurashtra all-rounder as he batted 54 balls for his five runs. Jadeja added 35 runs off 132 balls with the ace speedster.
Bumrah couldn't hold himself back after England used the short-ball ploy. A mistimed pull shot saw him being caught at mid-on by substitute fielder Sam Cook.

Siraj joined Jadeja in the middle, and he showed excellent application. They added 23 runs to bring India within touching distance. In the final session of the day, Shoaib Bashir bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that turned a long way and Siraj defended it nicely. However, the ball rolled back onto the stumps and one bail fell off, leaving England were cock-a-whoop.
Siraj was down on his haunches as he couldn't believe his luck. Jadeja, who made an unbeaten 61 off 181 balls, was gutted as well. Archer and Stokes bagged three wickets apiece for England as they won by 22 runs.
