India Women has set up a final with Sri Lanka Women in the Tri-Nation series after beating South Africa Women by 23 runs in Game 5 during a high-scoring bout on Wednesday, May 7. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side dominated the crucial moments of the game in Colombo.

The South Africa Women had won the toss and put the India Women team in to bat. The Proteas might have started the game well with the ball, taking three early wickets but the middle order of the Women in Blue made sure that they got the innings back on track and propelled themselves to 337-9 in 50 overs.

Speaking of the Rainbow Nation’s performances with the bat, though there were some good starts from the top order batters apart from all-rounders Annerie Dercksen (81 off 80 deliveries) and skipper Chloe Tryon (67 off 43), none of them could convert them into big knocks. This was the major reason that led to South Africa Women falling short of the target in the end and losing their third consecutive game of the series, which has also ruined their chances of making it to the final.

Jemimah and Deepti steal the show

Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma were the stars for the Women in Blue on the day. Jemimah scored a crucial century to get her team out of trouble with her phenomenal stroke-making skills. The young batter brought up her second ODI hundred, scoring 123 off 101 deliveries. Her innings included 15 fours and one six and was deservingly awarded the Player of the Match as well.

The contribution Deepti Sharma made was important as well, who not only formed an important 100+ partnership with Jemimah with her knock of 93 off 84 deliveries but also bowled a crucial spell with the ball ending the game with figures of 2/57 in her full quota of 10 overs. These two talented players were the ones who stole the show in the end.
