Australia doubled their lead in the five-match series against the West Indies by winning the second T20I at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica, by eight wickets on Wednesday, July 23.

Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first in Andre Russell's final international appearance. West Indies openers Brandon King and Shai Hope added 63 runs in eight overs, with the former doing the bulk of the scoring. They were dismissed off consecutive deliveries, with King making 51 off 36 balls, while Hope aggregating only nine off 13 deliveries.

Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase, and Rovman Powell got starts but couldn't convert them into substantial scores. Sherfane Rurtherford was dismissed for a duck before Russell walked out to the crease. The 37-year-old smashed two fours and four sixes to score 36 off 15 balls. Gudakesh Motie's unbeaten 18 off nine balls also played a part in helping the West Indies finish on 172/8 in their 20 overs.

Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers as he used the conditions to his advantage and finished with figures of 3/29 in four overs. Meanwhile, Nathan Ellis and Glenn Maxwell bagged two wickets apiece.

While it seemed that the Caribbean side was short by 15-20 runs, not many would have envisioned their disappointing fielding display. Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph got the openers out inside the powerplay. However, in the seventh over bowled by Motie, three catches were dropped.

Both Josh Inglis and Cameron Green were handed reprieves and they made the West Indies pay. The wicketkeeper-batter took the opposition bowlers to the cleaners with his aggressive strokeplay. On the other hand, Green had to work hard to get accustomed to the conditions before flourishing. Inglis got to his half-century off just 22 balls in the 12th over. The star all-rounder also registered his second consecutive half-century. Australia romped home in 15.2 overs with eight wickets to spare.
