WI vs AUS 2025, 2nd Test Review: Australia blow away West Indies on Day 4 to seal the series

All the fight shown by the West Indies seamers in the second Test against Australia at the National Cricket Stadium in St George's, Grenada came to nothing on Day 4 of the encounter as the batters let the hosts down yet again.

Australia started Day 4 at 221/7, with Alex Carey and Pat Cummins at the crease. The West Indies bowlers didn't take much time to take the last three wickets as Australia could add just 22 runs to their overnight score. However, they stretched their lead to 276 runs. Shamar Joseph was the pick of the West Indies bowlers, finishing with figures of 4/66.

The hosts had to chase down a challenging target of 277 runs on a pitch that had movement for the seamers and some balls were bouncing unevenly. However, there was a lack of application from the West Indies batters.

John Campbell, who looked good in the first innings, was dismissed in the second over for a two-ball duck by Josh Hazlewood. Keacy Carty was looking in real discomfort while facing Mitchell Starc and the left-arm seamer sent him packing in the seventh over. Kraigg Brathwaite, who was on a pair, tried to bide his time in the middle but Beau Webster got the better of him when he went feeling for a delivery with his feet stuck in the crease. The former West Indies Test captain aggregated just seven runs in his 100th Test appearance.

Pat Cummins bowled a jaffa to get the wicket of Brandon King, who was trying to take the attack to the Aussies. Shai Hope joined captain Roston Chase in the middle and the duo mixed caution with aggression, adding a 38-run stand off 47 deliveries.

Hope and Chase were dismissed a few overs a part and this spelled doom for the West Indies. Justin Greaves batted 22 balls for his two runs, while Alzarri Joseph hit two sixes during his four-ball stay. Shamar threw his bat around and made 24 off 23 balls before the West Indies were bowled out for 143 in 34.3 overs. The Pat Cummins-led side won the encounter by a comfortable 133-run margin to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Starc and Lyon bagged three wickets apiece in the fourth innings.
