Ben Stokes played a lethal career-best knock of a scintillating 182 off just 124 as England (ENG) defeated New Zealand (NZ) by a huge margin of 181 runs in the third match. As a result, they have taken a 2-1 lead in the series at The Oval. The fourth and final one-day international is all set to take place on Friday, September 15, 2023, at The Lord’s in London.

Speaking of the Oval ODI, skipper Tom Latham won the toss, and the Black Caps elected to field first. Jonny Bairstow got dismissed off the very first ball of the game by seamer Trent Boult, while Joe Root bagged yet another single-digit score of four. Dawid Malan struck 96 off 95 but the innings was all about Stokes who went on to register his highest individual score for England in the format.

The left-hander smashed 15 fours and nine maximums on his way to 182 as the home side posted a mammoth total of 368 on the board in 48.1 overs. Boult was the pick of the NZ bowlers for his spell of 5/51 in 9.1 overs. In reply, Glenn Phillips scored 72 off 76, but he failed to get any sort of support from the other Kiwi batters. The visitors got bundled out cheaply for 187 as Chris Woakes and Liam Livingstone picked up three wickets each. Latham and his men will look to win the Lord’s game to level the series 2-2.
