Watching your favourite team lose the game is painful. But what is more frustrating and disappointing as a cricket fan is when the match is abandoned without a single bowl being bowled. Many tune into their television or mobile screens and many flock to the stadium to watch their favourite team or players perform live.
But unexpectedly, the cloud cover will open over the stadium and the rain will spoil the fun. Sometimes such party spoilers can have a huge impact on teams' qualification for the knockout stages. The Indian Premier League (IPL) has also been a victim of such incidents where the match is washed out without a ball being bowled.

Let's take a look at the IPL seasons with the most abandoned matches:
3. IPL 2008, 2011, 2012, 2015 & 2017 (1 match)
One match was abandoned in five IPL seasons without a single bowl being bowled.
IPL 2008: The 47th match of the 2008 season between Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was the first match in the league's history to be called off without a ball being bowled. While the result helped Kings XI Punjab to qualify for the playoffs, KKR became the third team to be eliminated from the race.
IPL 2011: Persistent rain in Bangalore prevented Royal Challengers Bangalore (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) from playing the 20th match of the 2011 season. Both teams were in struggling form at that point and had to share a point each.
IPL 2012: The 32nd match between KKR and Deccan Chargers had to be abandoned completely as Eden Gardens was completely drenched. It earned the 2009 champions their first point after going winless in their first six matches.
IPL 2015: Due to the wet out-field conditions at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, the 25th game between KKR and RR was called off without a ball being bowled. Points were shared between the two teams and it helped RR climb to the top of the points table.
IPL 2017: The 29th match between RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was abandoned due to heavy rain in Bengaluru. It was a crucial match for Virat Kohli's RCB as far as the playoffs are concerned. SRH were third in the league stage while the home team ended their campaign at the bottom of the points table.
