Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are two of India's most prominent fast bowlers in the modern generation. Both of them have produced some magical spells for India in the red-ball format. While both are the same age, Bumrah made his Test debut almost three years (January 2018) before Siraj (December 2020).
Both the pacers had made their white-ball debuts before making their debut in Test format. Bumrah had made a considerable impression with his consistent performances before breaking through in the longest format. On the other hand, Siraj was yet to prove himself and was not a sure short starter in the limited-overs squads.
Both bowlers' styles differ quite a lot. Bumrah's skill set in Tests ranges from setting up batters with relentless accuracy. Not only does he swing the ball, he also confuses batters by movement through the surface. As for Siraj, his aggressive line and usage of the short-ball ploy has brought him immense success. Siraj is also an excellent exponent of reverse swing.
The two have been employed by captains in different manners. Bumrah has been used to provide breakthroughs in short bursts. This does not mean that Bumrah has not bowled long spells. However, his injury-prone action is one of the main reasons behind captains not bowling him at a stretch. On the contrary, Siraj has been a workhorse to hold the pressure from one end.
All in all, both Bumrah and Siraj have been valuable assets for India and true cricket fans know the value of both. After all, both of them form a lethal pair when bowling with the red cherry at full tilt together.
