Faf du Plessis rewrote history by shattering records with his unbeaten 103 off just 53 in Texas Super Kings' clash against MI New York in Match 21 of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025. This was his second ton in the ongoing tournament, with his first coming San Francisco Unicorns.
With this ton, du Plessis became the first cricketer in the history of 20-over cricket to score multiple tons after turning 40. It was also his eighth T20 ton as captain - the most in the history of T20 cricket as skipper up until now.
Most tons in T20s as captain (as of June 29, 2025):
Player | Centuries |
Faf du Plessis | 8 |
Babar Azam | 7 |
Michael Klinger | 7 |
Virat Kohli | 5 |
James Vince | 5 |
Du Plessis also became the first batter to register three tons in the history of MLC, overtaking Finn Allen and Nicholas Pooran, who have scored two each.
Coming to the match, Texas emerged victors by 39 runs after being successful in defending their 223-run total. They lost four wickets in getting there. du Plessis' stellar knock comprised five fours and nine sixes while Donovan Ferreira's fiery knock of 53 off 20 also helped the team. All of New York's bowlers conceded runs at a 10-plus economy rate.

In reply, New York could make only 184/9 in their 20 overs. There was no other significant contribution barring Kieron Pollard's 70 off 39. Akeal Hosein secured the Player of the Match award for conceding only 15 runs and bagging three wickets in his four-over quota. Although slightly expensive, Nandre Burger (2/40 in four overs) and Marcus Stoinis (2/43 in four overs) chipped in with two wickets apiece.
