Wanindu Hasaranga took 3/21 in his four-over spell while opener Pathum Nissanka smashed an unbeaten half-century to continue his impressive form as Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final Super 4 round game ahead of the final. Spinner Maheesh Theekshana and debutant pacer Pramod Madushan also snared two wickets apiece as Pakistan got bundled out for just 121 in 19.1 overs.

Speaking about how the last match of this round panned out, skipper Dasun Shanaka’s luck with the toss continued as he won yet another one and opted to field. Madushan took his maiden T20I wicket in the form of Mohammad Rizwan to dismiss him for just 14. Out-of-form Babar Azam played a scratchy innings of 30 off 29 before becoming the first victim of Hasaranga. Fakhar Zaman and Iftikhar Ahmed made 13 each while Khushdil Shah got out for just four. Asif Ali bagged a golden duck with Mohammad Nawaz smashing 26 off just 18 that helped the Men in Green in reaching a total of above 120.

Chasing a small target, Kusal Mendis also got out for a first-ball duck while Danushka Gunathilaka’s terrible form in this format stretched as he also managed naught. Shanaka and Rajapaksa played quickfire cameos of 21 and 24 respectively with Nissanka managing yet another fluent innings of 55* off 48. Mohammad Hasnain and Haris Rauf grabbed two wickets each but it wasn’t enough to avoid a defeat for their side. Sri Lanka registered a convincing win over their opponents in the final. For his match-winning spell, Hasaranga won the Player of the Match award. The summit clash takes place on Sunday, September 11, 2022, as both teams are set to battle it out for Asia’s title.
