Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) legendary skipper MS Dhoni scaled an impressive milestone in the IPL as he breached the 4,500-run mark for the franchise in the competition. Notably, the skipper attained the tally in his 216th match of the top-tier league during the clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, May 10.

Squaring off against Delhi, Dhoni scored a quickfire nine-ball 20 which featured two maximums and one boundary at a stunning strike rate of 222.22. It is worth mentioning that the skipper, who came down the order, carved out his blazing cameo in the penultimate over while being up against Khaleel Ahmed.

Hammering the 25-year-old pacer for 20 runs in the 19th over, Dhoni attained the 4,500-run milestone for the yellow outfit in the cash rich league. The skipper has recorded 22 fifties at a solid average of 40.54 whereas his former teammate, Suresh Raina cracked 4,687 runs, having featured in 176 matches in the competition.

Impressively, Dhoni also eclipsed the 5000-run mark in the league during Chennai’s second group fixture against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Chepauk on April 3. In doing so, Dhoni has an overall tally of 5074 runs at an average of 39.33, lacing it with 24 half-centuries.

Chennai record seventh win in IPL 2023

Speaking about the match, the home side defended 167 runs, courtesy of Matheesha Pathirana’s three-wicket haul coupled with Deepak Chahar’s two. In addition to this, it was star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who recorded a stunning spell 1/19 in four overs with an impressive economy of 4.75.

With this, Jadeja was also adjudged Player of the Match as CSK won the clash by 27 runs. MS Dhoni and Co. are placed second on the IPL Points Table with 15 points, after having played 12 fixtures and have a decent Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.493. The yellow outfit have virtually cemented their spot in the play-offs of the event and it remains to be seen if they can finish in the top two spot so as to obtain a berth in the Qualifier 1.
