India qualified to the Super 8s of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 after managing a win over the USA at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York on Wednesday, June 12.

USA were put in to bat but lost Shayan Jahangir on the first ball of the innings to Arshdeep Singh (4/09) who was breathing fire all over the place as he took one more wicket in the powerplay. Steven Taylor (24 off 30) and Nitish Kumar (27 off 23) stitched a partnership, but the rest of the USA batters couldn't make the most of it as Hardik Pandya (2 for 14) delivered another very good bowling performance.

The Men in Blue were rocked at the start as Saurabh Netravalkar (2/18) dismissed Virat Kohli for a golden duck in the first over and also dismissed Rohit Sharma in the powerplay itself. But Rishabh Pant (18 off 20) and Suryakumar Yadav (50* off 49) started rebuilding for India until Pant was dismissed. Shivam Dube(31* off 35) struggled initially but managed to find his groove long enough to take the visitors home amidst some drama. At the beginning of the 16th over of the chase, India needed 35 runs off 30 balls, and were awarded 5 penalty runs because of over-rate violations by the USA, and that seemed to re-invigorate India's spirits.

Here are all the stats from the game:

1 - Arshdeep Singh's 4/09 is the best bowling figures by an Indian player in T20 World Cups. The previous record was with R Ashwin who took 4/11 against Australia in 2014.

1 - Virat kohli registered his first-ever duck in a T20 World Cup match. It was also the second golden duck of his T20I career, both of these ducks have come this year.

5 - Saurabh Netravalkar is the 5th bowler to dismiss both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the same T20 World Cup match. The feat was previously achieved by Shaheen Shah Afridi and Ish Sodhi in 2021 followed by Lungi Ngidi and Chris Jordan in 2022.

4 - This was the fourth instance of a team receiving penalty runs in a T20 World Cup match. Ireland (against the UAE in 2014), South Africa (against Bangladesh in 2022) and Zimbabwe (against South Africa in 2022) were the previous beneficiaries. All the penalties were of 5 runs each.
