Kohli records his 11th time scoring consecutive ODI ton
Kohli entered the second ODI with a century in the previous match at Ranchi, and continued his fine form in Raipur. The innings also recorded his 11th time scoring consecutive ODI ton, the most by any player in the history of the game. He now has ODI hundreds in six different stadiums where he has scored over 500 runs, surpassing legends like Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Dean Jones, and Jacques Kallis.
With India asked to bat first on a flat surface, the veteran stitched an impressive 195-run partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Kohli’s 102 off 93 balls saw him lace his knock with seven fours and two sixes, as he kept the scoreboard ticking even as South Africa tried to pull things back.
This century was also Kohli’s 8th against South Africa, extending his dominance over a team against whom he averages nearly 70. The 195-run stand with Gaikwad, who scored his maiden ODI ton, took India out of early trouble. This innings also pushed him to his 84th international century, second only to Tendulkar’s 100, and his 40th at home, once again behind only the Master Blaster (42).
